Sample case

Three accounts. Find the one that cannot be true.

On Saturday morning, the honesty box went missing from the egg stall in Market Elsby's market hall. Three shoppers told the hall manager their versions of events. Read the pieces of evidence, then work out whose account cannot be true.

A small case of its own. Case 001 stays sealed.

Whose account cannot be true?

  1. TO WHOEVER TOOK MY HONESTY BOX.

It was on this table, with £11 in it, when the cheese counter called 47. When they called 49, it was gone. I heard both numbers called while I was round the back fetching more trays. Bring it back to the stall and that is the end of it.

  2. Egg stall box.

    Asked the three nearest.

Owen Pryce: didn't come in till after it went. Says everyone was already talking about it when he took his ticket.

Freya Lund: waiting at the cheese counter when it went, eyes on the number board, saw nothing.

Sam Okafor: bought a dozen eggs, paid into the box, then joined the cheese queue.

Before you order

Questions.

When will it arrive?

We post every order by Thursday 10 December 2026, Royal Mail 2nd Class. Royal Mail aims to deliver 2nd Class within three working days. We can’t promise a delivery day, so every order includes a gift note you can give on the day.

Do I have to subscribe?

No. You can buy just this month’s case as a one-off. If you’d rather, there’s a monthly plan (cancel any time, or skip a month), or pay once for 3 or 12 cases. Same case either way.

Can I cancel?

Yes. For a one-off, cancel any time before we post it for a full refund. On the monthly plan, cancel before the next case is posted. For a 3 or 12-case plan, cancel before a case is posted for a refund of those not yet sent. After a case arrives you have 14 days to cancel it; refunds go back to the same card within 14 days. Terms.

Can I send it straight to the person I’m giving it to?

Yes. Choose “Buy as a gift”, enter their address, and print or send the gift note. The packing slip shows no price.

How do I pay?

By card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, on a secure payment page run by Stripe. We never see your card details.

How long does it take?

We’re still timing it with testers, so we’ll show the range here soon.

Who is it for?

One or two adults who like crime stories or puzzles. Case 001 is about a death; the injury is one sentence in an official letter, and nothing is shown.

Is it a real crime?

No. Every case is original fiction.

How is it made?

Every case is original fiction, written for the case and then printed, cut and packed by hand. More on how it’s made.

Do I need anything else to play?

A pen and some table space. Everything else is in the envelope.

Someone at the party
is still lying.
